Ackroyd style, circa 1940’s, 9 feet, white cedar, mahogany and oak. Original apart from stern (replaced 1980), keel, ribs (replaced 2016) and seat. Sitka spruce spoon oars, circa 1950’s. Excellent condition, no work needed.

Spirit was built in the mid 1940’s as a yacht tender to a sail boat at the National Yacht Club in Toronto. The owner was Phil Hutchins. After he passed on, his spouse asked Ron Brooks to store it for her in his garage. He lived in the Bay of Quinte. On a sailing holiday in the late 1970’s Peter, Terry stopped in to see Ron. He said, “I’ve got something you’d like to have.” Peter bought it immediately. Peter said it looked like a piece of firewood, it was so dried out you could twist it. It was painted green.

Peter scraped and sanded the hull, there was some rot at the stern (transom) so he cut off 1” and replaced it with mahogany. He replaced the front and back seats made removable floor boards and a removable bow piece., the middle seat is original. He varnished it with numerous coats. Replaced the keel with oak in the 1990’s.

In 2016 Peter and a local boat restorer and boat builder replaced the ribs with local white oak.

The boat is 10 feet long from tip to stern.4 feet in beam and 27” deep inside.

    Lying Perry Sound Ontario.
